About ten years ago, I had my first class in pedology. Honestly, I didn’t have many expectations, I was even worried it might turn out to be a class about feet. But then it blew my mind. I realised that what lies beneath us has, shaped the life we live today.
Eating pizza with friends, having a beer or an orange juice: all of it depends on soil. The clothes we wear come from it too. And the more you learn, the more you ask yourself:
Why did I have to wait until my 20s to learn about something so fundamental?
So I kept going, but I quickly ran into the question of why. Communication.
Being a scientist is great, but we’re not really trained to be good communicators. That’s why I’m here, sharing my work and the knowledge I have and continue to learn about soil. I’m trying to do better at this and, if this helps others learn more about soil, then my journey will be even more meaningful.
Soil for Planet:
The Blog
Because soil is about everyone – not just soil nerds.
And this blog? It’s for everyone, too.
My mission?
To turn your confused face when someone talks about soil… into a concerned face when someone doesn’t.
Because protecting soil isn’t a solo job – it’s something we can all be part of.
